Advertising

I don't know how much I've complained about advertising on here (I know I've done it out loud to other people), but I am startled at how pathetic and cheesy some of the advertisements I see are.  Especially since I've been in school for digital media, I've really noticed it. I'll point out, oh that was sad, or, that does not make me want to buy their product/service. However, my dad showed me this promo for VW Golf, which I think is very clever. Somebody at VW marketing is actually using their brain. Faith in humanity ('s ability to advertise) restored. Basically what happens is every second they drop the price just over a cent (dropping the price almost $1000/day). Once the price has dropped enough that you want to buy it, all you have to do is hit the button and get to a dealership within a month to get your new VW Golf for the special price. But here's the catch: once somebody hits the button, the countdown resets to the regular price and starts all over again. Cool, huh? I'm curious as to how quickly someone will hit the button. Last I checked, someone must have hit the button only a couple hours ago, but I don't know how much of a discount they got. Starting at just under $19,000.00, it's currently at $18,855.44. Let me know how low you see it!

Paparazzi

There's a girl walking around on the "field" outside my window and it's really throwing me off. I keep hearing her footsteps as she tramps around in all the dead leaves. Sometimes she comes really close to my window. I don't think she realizes that I'm there, and she definitely does not know that my window is open and I can hear everything she's saying:
- she's done with exams on the 14th (just like me)
- her friend goes back to work in a couple weeks (I go to camp in a month)
- her exam is based of stuff they went over in class (...duh)
Completely oblivious. I just stared at her for a solid minute. Nothing. She also cannot stand still to save her life. I should point out that while it is close to a door to Renison, this "field" is not exactly close to any paths or anything. It makes me wonder why she choose there. Ha. Probably because she didn't think she would be heard by anybody there. Well you thought wrong, darling. It's so funny to be sitting here writing about her while she's just a few feet away from me, yet she is completely unaware. But I guess that's the media and paparazzi for you.
At least she's scared the geese away. For now.

So tumblr had a Terms & Conditions thing pop yesterday. Now, as most of the population does, I usually just check off the box and continue on without reading. But having heard some things about this particular set of terms and conditions, I decided to read them. Obviously there was all the boring legal stuff, but then every so often, there would be these gems:

Completely legit. I was laughing so hard my don told me to be quiet cause quiet hours had started. Before being acquired by Yahoo!, tumblr didn't have rules and conditions. So you can tell right away that they weren't into this kind of stuff. But even now that they have to have them, they still manage to be themselves and basically be the best site ever.

So companies, if you want people to actually read your Terms & Conditions, add a little something special to them. 

All I want is a mug with its own cosy.

Fluoride (QOTD #61)

Is fluoride in the water the reason that tap water tastes different from filtered/bottled/fresh/natural water?

Also, I watched Sherlock, but more about that later when I've had time to absorb what I've seen.

Nope. But if I had a nice one, maybe like Sherlock's, I would.

(I was shocked at how hard it was to find a good picture of hie bathrobe. I tried looking for a gif, so you could get an even better idea, but that didn't work out either...)

Sherlock

So season 3 of Sherlock finally has a (British) air date:

(We already knew it was airing in the USA on Jan 19th). Last week it was announced that it would be sometime in December or January (no sh*t Sherlock [I'm so puny]). And then people were thinking that it would be the 22nd of Dec or the 29th. But BBC released today the air dates of all three episodes (read with sarcasm and pain), with more theatricality than Sherlock himself:

They drove a hearse around London all morning with the air date and his name in flowers.
Personally I think it was a little out of character for BBC, but I loved it all the same. BBC had been tweeting the previous evening to be on the look out for a special vehicle. People were lining the streets to see it and take pictures with it. Talk about a reveal.

The weird part though is that Jan 1st is a Wednesday, when it usually airs on Sundays. It will, however resume that course, with the air dates being Jan 1st, 5th and 12th. So we get to see the episodes sooner, but that also means that it will be over quicker :(

it told me that if you search "doge meme" into youtube all of the words change colour and become comic sans. Then underneath that somebody else had said that they thought it was lying but they found out that it wasn't. I didn't believe it (but I had to check).

QOTD #22

Guys, I finished everything on my list to do today and it's not even 5 o'clock yet. This never happens. Also, we had a college dinner last night (where everybody gets dressed up and there are servers and we all eat at the same time). I had half an hour so I thought I would try to straighten my hair. I DID IT IN 8 MINUTES. 8 MINUTES. I straightened my hair in 8 minutes. That does not happen. I have thick hair and a lot of it. 8 minutes! I still can't get over it. My hair will be straight much more often now that I know it won't take me half an hour to do so.

22. Would you ever want to swim with sharks?
Well, I have already. But I was floating across the top of the water and they were deeper down. And they were ting sharks. I don't think I would want to do the whole dropped-into-shark-infested-waters-in-a-cage thing though.

My guiltiest pleasure is...
Wow, um, I dunno. Probably eating snacks when I've already eaten lots. And watching movies and TV online... :)
