The Real Ending

To minimal surprise but some disappointment, there was no new Sherlock episode last night. On Saturday I was starting to have my doubts. But here we are a week later and there's nothing to show for all the hope we (the fandom) had. There are still some who are clinging to their last shreds of hope that it will actually air next week. Their reasoning for this is because the date will be 1/29, which is a time that Sherlock stopped a bomb going off in a previous episode. But that's too much of a stretch for me. Season 4 is over. The producer of the show even tweeted that there's no fourth episode. I'm going to watch TFP again to watch it with less expectations than I did the first time around. A number of people who originally didn't like it have come around to it. All I can hope is for them to make another season. But enough about Sherlock.
I went home this weekend and managed to finish the top of my t-shirt quilt. I won't be able to quilt it until reading week, but I'm very happy with how it's going so far. I'm really excited to show it to people, because I know camp means a lot to so many people. Tomorrow I get free lunch at Crabby Joe's because I'm helping with some UX testing. They're even providing transportation so I literally am losing nothing out of this.
I've decided to start eating based on Canada's food guide. I know that I don't eat enough fruits and vegetables and I also eat too much meat. I think I might have to increase my grain consumption though, which was not something I was expecting. It will take some adjusting, but hopefully in the long un will lead to healthier eating habits. The plan is to make a tracker that I can use to keep track. Im surprised that no apps exist for this type of thing. I'm also going to start going for walks every other day as a form of exercise. It would appear that if you're not just strolling along and are actually going at a quick pace, walking can be just as effective exercise as going to the gym. And I'm not a fan of the gym, so this is the compromise.

Extremely Long Post Purely About Sherlock Season 4

I know I haven't 'fangirled' in a while, as I've tried to put that behind me and provide you with content that you might actually be interested in reading instead of me going "omg sherlock is the best show eva you defs need to watch it!" However, there are certain theories going around regarding Sherlock season 4 and I have to write about it. Here we go (hardly any but some minor spoilers, for those of you who haven't seen it yet).
Episode one of season 4 was The Six Thatchers (TST). A bit of an odd episode; a much different style compared to the rest of the show. And generally had some fishy stuff. The second episode, The Lying Detective (TLD), was amazing. It was back to the traditional Sherlock we know and have come to love. And left us on a big cliff hanger, as the writers are fond of doing. And then this past Sunday was the season finale: The Final Problem (TFP). There have been some rumours that this season would be the last season*, and the episode title seemed to echo that.
Going into this episode, I was expecting a lot. There were a lot of loose ends that needed to be tied up, and they only had 90mins to do it in. The people on tumblr have created countless theories explaining what we've seen so far, why TST was so wacky, and what they predicted would happen in TFP. It's amazing what these people come up with, but it's also an identifying factor of the fans, and the writers know that. One theory stood out from all the rest, and proposed that TFP would tell us something along the lines that TST and TLD never happened, they were a dream/result of drugged/other altered mind state/unreliable narrator.
I go to turn the TV on at 8:55pm, ready for the 9pm airing of TFP, only to find that for this episode, the show got a 'special time slot' and had actually aired at 7pm. I was crushed. I had so many questions that needed answers and now I wouldn't get them. Luckily, after some hunting I discovered that PBS had already posted the episode online. So I was still able to watch the episode (thank goodness).
The episode starts, and immediately we're off. I was sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time. I didn't know I could hold my breath for 90mins, but apparently I can. TFP is go-go-go throughout the entire episode. We're racing through this mystery that seems to never end and suddenly I think to myself, "they're running out of time. There's so much they need to go over still and they only have so much time left." I hardly give it a second thought, lest I miss something important. (You literally need to give Sherlock your undivided attention because it's definitely a blink-and-you'll-miss-one-line-that-the-rest-of-the-episode-rides-on situation).
The mystery ends, we're given a montage of life after the mystery, and the credits role. Immediately I'm furious. Absolutely none of my questions were answered. None of the theories the fans came up with were true (there have been some disturbingly accurate theories created before, so I've learned to take them just a bit seriously). The episode didn't even mention half the things we (the fans) were expecting it to. I'd even go so far as to say that TFP contradicts some of the previous episodes. And above all else, TFP was the most atypical episode of Sherlock that has ever been created. We thought TST was off; TFP was never 'on' to begin with. Not that I've seen these movies, but people are comparing it to Saw and James Bond.
I immediately go to tumblr to see what the fans are thinking. As expected, there is outrage, disappointment, even hate for the writers for ruining the show. But what I did not expect was a split: half the fans were against the episode and the other half loved it. They couldn't stop singing its praises! (There was also a small number of people, myself included, who wondered what this would do to the fandom, if we were so split over this episode). After some time went by, I began to see where the other side was coming from. It was a good episode: never before had I been so captivated by a single episode before; it was exciting and got my pulse racing; I felt the pain of the characters. The actors did a lovely job. But it still didn't feel right. It completely disregarded everything we had been shown up until this point. One fan put it beautifully:

Great story, wrong place and time.

Wow, I've rambled on and haven't even got to the main point yet. But what good story doesn't have a backstory? Here's my main point:

fans think there's another episode.

Wild, right? I thought, you're off your rocker. You just want to try and justify this mess of an episode by thinking there will magically be another episode to explain everything. There can't possibly be another episode. But over the past two days (TWO DAYS - Sherlock fans never cease to amaze me in how fast they can come up with things), the fans on tumblr have gathered enough tidbits and facts to make me think, there might actually be a secret episode! Now I'm not one to get my hopes up easily regarding things I'm invested in so much, but they have a compelling case:

To start, before any of season 4 aired, the writers said "If we pull this off, we'll make television history." "It's kind of groundbreaking, they've done something that's never been done before." "Love conquers all." And, if you happened to skip everything I've written up until this point, TFP was certainly not groundbreaking and it was most definitely not something that's never been done before. And in some people's opinions, love decidedly did not conquer all. This is their jumping point: all of these quotes make a lot more sense with a secret episode than with what we watched on Sunday.

The remaining points can be summed up as such:
- they raved about some music written for the show and we haven't heard it yet
- a mysterious deleted tweet from writer of said music
- the DVD isn't being released until the end of January (why wait unless there was something else coming?)
- TFP took twice as long to shoot as other episodes
- numerous scenes that were shot and we haven't seen yet
- they talk about 'the lost special' offhand sometimes
- a promo picture was leaked prematurely and was very quietly and seriously taken care of, but the ENTIRE EPISODE of TFP is leaked early and they tweet and write news articles about it and make no action to take them down
And perhaps my favourite point of all, in TLD Sherlock says, and I quote, "Must be something comforting about the number three. People always give up after three..."
The writers have been known to lie in order to keep Sherlock secrets, so I'm not even going to mention them denying another episode.

Now up until this point I was still skeptical. Yes, there's lots of things that could point to a fourth episode. But I've found that if you're grasping at straws, you'll tell yourself you've found what you are looking for. But then this happened:

There are reportedly 3 separate TV provider websites that have a fourth episode listed (I say reportedly because I only actually looked at one to check). 'Why not check the cable listings then?', you may be thinking, 'Surely that will give you your answer'. As always, the fans have thought of this. And this is what they found:

In Sherlock's supposed time slot, there is a new series called Apple Tree Yard (ATY) airing. Most people would have stopped there and said, 'ah well that settles it. No secret episode'. But Sherlock fans are not most people. I did a little digging myself even, and this is what I found. There is a trailer on youtube (only posted a couple of weeks ago...) for ATY with legitimate actors and storyline. It has an imdb page. It doesn't have a ton of information on it, but there's a list of cast and crew. It has a storyline, as all imdb entries do, but this one was written by BBC Media, whereas most summaries on imdb are written by users. Thus begins the fake show cover up theory.
It seems a little extravagant to make up an entire TV series to keep a secret. But as I said before, the writers are known for lying to keep Sherlock secrets. I was getting a little skeptical due to the amount of information I was finding about ATY. However, I bring you my biggest supporting point: if you google the actors in ATY, nothing pops up about them being in ATY, or even being in a new TV show. And it's not like these are nobody actors. Emily Watson is one of them, who is a well known actor, having been in The Theory of Everything and War Horse, among many others. Wouldn't news sites be writing about a new project staring such a big actress? Surely there would be at least one google result that talked about the upcoming ATY show airing in less than a week. (Some people have also gone so far as to mention that a apple tree wall decal shown in TST indicates that ATY is fake, because the writers love those kinds of connections).

One last point (I promise). TFP didn't end on a cliff hanger. Every single season finale of Sherlock ends on a cliffhanger. Some say this supports the idea that there won't be any more Sherlock. I'm adding it to the list of things that makes TFP abnormal.

I don't know what to think. I know what I want to think. I also don't want to be crushed come Sunday evening. If there is another episode, that would truly be groundbreaking and television history, as they've been saying.

I'll get back to you on Monday. Regardless of what happens, I will surely have lots of feelings to tell you about.

*This may or may not be true. As you may or may not know, Sherlock has a sporadic production schedule and is infamous for its notoriously long waits between seasons. This is primarily due to the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have hit the big screen and just don't have the time to film Sherlock anymore. However, the entire cast and crew enjoys the show, enjoys making the show, and wants it to continue. It is just a tad difficult to make it happen. The writers have said nothing about season 5, other than the fact that they'd like for it to happen.

Fight to Entertain

This is me eating my words and wishing I had brought my sewing stuff to Stratford. Only a week in and I'm rudely reminded of how boring it can get in Stratford. I have to make a real effort to entertain myself and not just waste my days away on social media. That being said, I did do lots of fun things this week. 
It was Marissa's birthday on Friday, so on Thursday we drove to Kitchener to go trampolining. Mara and I had been to this place before, where they have 6 olympic grade trampolines. It was great fun. I almost did a full front flip (I just can't quite stick the landing and end up on my butt). Michelle however did gymnastics when she was younger and so was doing front flips, back flips, you name it. Definitely got my exercise in that day and felt it for the following two days. I'd like to go back at some point and see if I can't finally land a front flip.
Later that day we had our first SSC event of the term at a local pub. Much to our enjoyment, Thursday is now 25cent wing night. I made a slight misjudgement in how hungry I was and ordered 5 wings and a burger. Way too much food. But the wings were great. And I couldn't get over that it cost $1.25 for 5 wings! I'm no wing fanatic but even I know that's got to be a great deal. I might start making regular trips to the pub for 5 wings every Thursday night.
Friday morning started off great listening to Ed Sheeran's two new singles. I've come to realize that I almost always don't like a song when I first hear it if it's a song I'm expecting to like (i.e. from an artist I'm familiar with). So I didn't form any opinions until later. And as expected, I really like both of them. I'm not sure which one I like better; it might have to be Castle On The Hill.

Last night I had some friends over to play Catan (I won). I also made my new meal of the week: spinach salad with dried cranberries, chicken, avocado, and poppyseed dressing. To be honest I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It might just make it on to my rotation of meals. I haven't decided what this week's recipe is going to be; it will depend on when I get to a grocery store next.

I also made rice krispie squares but they didn't turn out great. I think the marshmallows were past their prime.
Didn't do much today. Watched a sermon from The Meeting House online. I've started doing a daily doodle where I practice my lettering/doodling. It's not much but I'm trying out the concept that doing something everyday will help you get better at it. I'm patiently waiting for 9pm to roll around to watch the next Sherlock episode. I've had to stay off social media since this afternoon to avoid any spoilers, since Britain has already seen it and there are already things being posted about what happens.

I realize it's been a while, and I've probably lost most of you because of my own lack of posts. But better late than never.
I can't believe it's 2016 already. December flew by and in just 2 weeks I'll be off to England for my term abroad. I'll be starting a new blog to use during the time I'm away. I want lots of people to be able to read about my travels but not be able to see everything I've posted over the last several years. Once I get that started, I'll write all about my worries and panics that I'm having right now about moving across the world for 4 months. Maybe I'll make myself a hashtag.
Not much else going on here. I was successful in my 2015 New Years resolution of writing and mailing a letter each week. My last letter was a letter I wrote to future 50 year-old me. I still haven't figured out how I'm going to mail that to myself... I haven't set a specific resolution for this year. I'd like to in general live more spontaneously (which will probably happen most while I'm abroad). I have a 5 year question journal that I fill out every day, so that will also be something that I'm doing this year (and the next 4 after that).
My brother currently has a friend over and is watching the new Sherlock special that aired yesterday. I haven't watched it yet because my parents and I are going to see it in theatres next week. I have to avoid tumblr until then because I really don't want anything to be spoiled. I've been watching Once Upon A Time this fall and had a pretty big plot line revealed on tumblr so I'm very cautious now about not having anything spoiled. (I kid you not as I was typing this out I heard my brother and his friend both go "Wait, what? Wait, WHAT?!" and I freaked out a bit).
Once I've got my new blog up and running, I'll post a link to it here. Then this blog will be silent for 4 months (not that it's been shouting or anything over the past year).

Camp!

Woohoohoo! Camp! So excited. This evening, we (excluding myself) were calling families and seeing if their kids were interested in coming up to camp this summer. However, camp only has one phone line, and we had a lot of families to be calling. So then people were seeing if their phone plan would support making a bunch long distance calls. But! Eventually we figured out that you can use Google+ to make phone calls (who knew?!). So everyone was in different corners calling people off their laptops. It was funny to watch people talk and the different reactions parents would give to getting the phone call. There was a lot of pumpkin left in the kitchen so now the head cook is looking up recipes to use pumpkin in different ways. It will be interesting to see what we come up with! I can connect to the wifi everywhere in the dining hall except my room, which is a little annoying to say the least. And I usually blog just before bed, so basically you're all doomed on the update front. But you can be praying for camp and the staff!

Since, you've all been asking, here's how the bubble tea outing went (it's just copied from an email, so it might read a little weird? maybe not):
The outing with Josh was ok. We walked over to the plaza and got bubble tea and sat in the store while drinking the tea. We just chatted. We haven't talked a lot so we were just kind of getting to know each other better. But we're both awkward at having conversations, so that makes things interesting. The way he keeps conversations going is he'll say "tell me a story". Or "what is there exciting about you"? And I'm not sure how I feel about that. I mean, obviously we would both like there to be conversation, and not silence, but he backs out and forces me to come up with a new conversation topic. I would be okay with it, but he does it every time there's a lull in the conversation. He was shocked to learn that I'm half Chinese (he literally was taken aback when I told him my last name). But apparently I don't know enough Asian stuff, so he's going to teach me all this Asian stuff? He's shocked that I don't read comics. (Like, he has a thing for over-reacting a little bit. But I think that is going back to the awkward conversation; he doesn't want to seem like he's not interested, so he goes over the top.) Says him, who has a comic book as one of his textbooks and doesn't want to read it -_- I convinced him to watch Frozen though. I told him I would watch the Batman series if he watched Frozen. But it's not like I actually have time to watch movies right now.

I have a memory of holding hands recently for a strange reason. Like the reason I had to hold hands was weird, not the fact that I have a memory of it. But I can't get at it. Lethologica. So the clear memory I have of holding hands was with Ryan, who is in my program, my art class and lives in Renison. I am not great friends with Ryan, he's not really the kind of person I would hang out with normally, but I don't know anybody else in my art class, so yeah. We had just come back from our art class and Uthi, a girl on my floor also in GBDA and who is closer to Ryan, was walking through a hall in Renison. Ryan said, "Grab my hand and start skipping. We're going to freak Uthi out." He didn't really give me a chance to even think about what he had said, so skipping down the hall I went, holding hands with Ryan. We both had huge grins on our faces and were acting like we were the happiest couple to ever walk the earth. We passed Uthi and her mouth just dropped. I have to admit, it was pretty funny.

- minimum of 5 hours of studying each day

    - 2.5 hrs each for econ and business (I'm doing a chapter a day; I thought it would take me 45mins to an hour for each chapter, since I'm just reviewing what I've already read, but it's been taking me at least two hours)

- doing an image for my bookwork assignment for my art class

- which never turns out how I imagine in my brain

- so that just depresses me

- cause my hands are not the artist my brain is

- lack of sleep

- second and third winds, preventing sleep when I can actually have it

- drowning my sorrows in tea and baked goods (Timmies has these really good red velvet muffins right now)

- I like tea better with sugar, I've discovered

- which, you would think, wouldn't be a big deal

- but it is because the caf has sugar

- and I don't. So now if I want tea with sugar, it has to be when the caf is open

- which is never when I feel like tea

- going on an awkward outing with a boy that likes me

So today on the bus back to Waterloo I was trying to do some studying for economics. But I was super tired, and kind of nodding off as I was typing notes. Eventually I just fell asleep for like 20 mins. But man, I felt so much better afterwards. Even though I only slept for a short time, I was roaring and ready to go again. Anyways, since I didn't get much studying done on the bus, I did some this evening. I went to pick up where I had fallen asleep and it was like a drunk person had been typing. There were random letters, random words, short coherent sentences, spaces of nothing, etc. It was hilarious.
Also, at dinner, I was sitting alone. There's this guy who sometimes if he sees me eating alone will come sit with me. I'm like 89.7% sure he likes me. He's always, in his own words, "baffled" when he talks to me. And I was like, well so am I so we can just be awkward together. I didn't actually say the awkward together part. But he asked for my number (after asking if I had FB). And so yeah. Interesting story of the day. Heather gets further than ever before in a relationship with a boy (I don't know what you want to call this).

It's 1AM right now, and I'm totally on my third wind. I'm really wound up right now cause all I've been doing for the past 4 hours is typing study notes. I think I may have to go take a walk around Renison. I'm going to start painting for a project I have. Like I said, wound up, not really thinking with the most common sense. Painting at 1AM!

I think series three has been biased in answering these questions because I watched it the most recently. But it would probably be the after credits scene of His Last Vow (basically the cliffhanger they left us with).

(500) Days of Summer

I watched (500) Days of Summer for the first time last night. It was pretty good. To be honest, It was not at all what I was expecting, just in terms of how the movie was done. It was very hipster. But there were some great quotes that I would just like to share with you now.

Summer: I just…I just woke up one day and I knew.

When Sherlock is talking to Mary in the fake house and then it's revealed that John was listening to the entire conversation.  And how John kind of breaks down after that. Agh and when he says "How is it always my fault?" Breaks my heart.

Hot chocolate. (But I kind of want to try tea and determine if I actually like it or not...)

82. Favourite type of cookie?
My mom's double reverse chocolate chip cookies (also M&M cookies).

Sherlock: Favourite Case.
Oh wow. This make me think so much. Probably The Great Game. I liked how Moriarty involved Sherlock's first case. And I also enjoyed the variety. I guess it's technically a bunch of cases, but I'm going to count them as one.

79. What was the last concert you saw?
Oh wow, I can't remember... Um...Taylor Swift. I'm thinking that I've forgotten a really obvious one.

80. Hot tea or cold tea?
Well I've always really liked cold tea, but it has to be sweetened. Like, Nestea. But hot tea is kind of growing on me. I've had it a couple of times recently at Chinese restaurants. That was just green tea, no milk or sugar. So I think that if I made an effort to figure out what I liked, I'd probably like hot tea as well. Also, I had bubble tea for the first time last week. It didn't taste like tea at all really, I got vanilla chocolate flavoured. I'm not sure how I feel about tapioca balls, but the drink part was good.

Sherlock: Favourite scene.
Like all of the deduction scenes. My favourite is probably when Sherlock reveals how he knew so much about John in A Study in Pink. Oh, but also ***spoilers*** drunk Sherlock and John.

Argh. Again, I don't have a lot to choose from, but they're all so good!
Ok, via process of elimination, I'm going to have to say that my favourite episode is The Sign of Three. Decisions are hard for me, and that was probably one of the most difficult decisions I've had to make.
