Title from "Life's For the Living" by Passenger
This weekend I had the great pleasure of having my sister come visit me in Waterloo. It was a ton of fun, and we packed so much into the 30hrs we had together. Freshly baked donuts were first on the list. We stopped at a bakery that I had never been to before, but according to reddit, had great donuts. And they did not disappoint. Then we headed to the mall in Kitchener. Next, unfortunately, was the looong bus ride back to my apartment (never before had I realized how much I ride the bus, and how much it would cost me if my student card didn't work as a bus pass). We then went to the World's Largest East Side Mario's for dinner. (I wonder why and how the World's Largest East Side Mario's is in Waterloo...). Back at the apartment, we watched Pitch Perfect, because that is a great movie (thank you J for Netflix). My favourite scene will always be the riff-off. On Sunday morning we went to Cora's for brunch/lunch. I had breakfast poutine, which was delicious. It was home fries with bacon, sausage, and cheese curds covered with hollandaise sauce and an egg on top :) Alison got pancakes with mini Oreos mixed in. That was also delicious (for the record, Cora's pancakes are huge - much larger than they appear in pictures on menus). Then we went to see Cinderella. It was well done, but because it's a remake, you already know what's going to happen, so the excitement from not knowing isn't there. But I would say still worth watching. One of the highlights was the short at the beginning, Frozen Fever. It was so cute. The songs were a bit of a let down, but there's little mini snowmen that are so cute :) Then I made dinner and we watched Friends.
Alison, we didn't have a lot of time together but we made the most of it and I'm so glad you're my sister. See you in 4 days ;)

New Media and Digital Culture/Lives has so completely taken over my life that it's even being mentioned in the book I'm reading by Pastor Eugene Cho: Overrated: Are We More in Love with the Idea of Changing the World Than Actually Changing the World? There is no escape.

Theo James
Something I read a while ago really annoyed me. Theo James, male lead actor in Divergent, gave an interview for the Cineplex magazine. He was talking about how the movie had some really deep characters and how it was about nature vs nurture and he was putting his philosophy training to work. I really appreciated the deeper analysis than the "OMG she loves him but he doesn't love her, or does he?" He says "....Essentially, it's a question of are you restricted to one way of thinking? And the answer, really, is no." I was thinking to myself, I really like Theo. And then, and then. The author of the article goes, and I quote, "It's heady stuff, but let's not forget Divergent is also an action-packed love story aiming to attract The Hunger Games' crowd and make stars out of both James and the film's lead, Shailene Woodley."

Thoughts
Thought numero uno: Giphy is like my favourite new website. It's just GIFs. Endless GIFs. It's beautiful. They even have a reaction GIF section and I just
Thought #2: I don't know if this it old news or not, but Brad Pitt fINALLY CUT HIS HAIR.
I'm not sure how I feel about the whole Macklemore look on him, but anything is better than the long hair he's been sporting since the beginning of forever.
Thought number 3: WHAT THE HELL DOES RUSSIA THINK THEY'RE DOING INVADING UKRAINE??? This could quite possibly lead to something bigger like WWIII and I do not want that. No invading. Please.
Thought Num Four: this ever changing numbering system I've adapted is part homage to Margo Roth Speigleman and her Capitalization Equality (Paper Towns, John Green), part me being not myself, and part pissing me off because it is not me.
Thought Integer 5: Yo I got 85% on my econ midterm which is way better than I actually did because the prof bell curved the marks. I actually got 70%, which I'm still pretty happy with. I've done worse. (The class average was 49%. Out of 40, the highest mark was 31 and the lowest mark was 4.)
Thought Number Sei: I can't believe February is over already. On the other hand, that means it is now March and I will soon find out if I got the job at FCC. I CAN'T WAIT.
Thought # 7: I'm trying to watch all (well, most, really) of the Oscar nominated films before the Oscars happen, which I will be watching tomorrow evening. I even printed off a ballot card :) So far I've seen The Wolf of Wall Street, Her, Gravity, and American Hustle in the Best Picture category. So far my favourite is Gravity. It was truly an amazing movie, I really liked it. I enjoyed Her as well. I wasn't a huge fan of American Hustle, which kind of disappointed me. I didn't end up finishing it. I'm going to watch 12 Years a Slave this evening. (I've also seen Frozen, Despicable Me 2, The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, Start Trek Into Darkness and Iron Man 3 which are nominated in other categories).
Thought # Eight: I need to choose my courses for the fall term this week. Problem is I can't find the list of courses I'm required to take, so I don't even know how many electives I have to choose.
Thought number nove: I painted a Weeping Angel paint-by-number style and I really like how it turned out. Unfortunately for you, I'm such a lazy butt that you don't get a picture. At least not today.
Thought num 10: I should probably start reading one of 5 chapters I need to read this week but screw it it's the weekend I watched two hours of photoshop tutorials I'm going to do some fun reading.
au revoir

My Life: A Summary
- minimum of 5 hours of studying each day
- 2.5 hrs each for econ and business (I'm doing a chapter a day; I thought it would take me 45mins to an hour for each chapter, since I'm just reviewing what I've already read, but it's been taking me at least two hours)
- doing an image for my bookwork assignment for my art class
- which never turns out how I imagine in my brain
- so that just depresses me
- cause my hands are not the artist my brain is
- lack of sleep
- second and third winds, preventing sleep when I can actually have it
- drowning my sorrows in tea and baked goods (Timmies has these really good red velvet muffins right now)
- I like tea better with sugar, I've discovered
- which, you would think, wouldn't be a big deal
- but it is because the caf has sugar
- and I don't. So now if I want tea with sugar, it has to be when the caf is open
- which is never when I feel like tea
- going on an awkward outing with a boy that likes me
- drinking bubble tea on said outing
- which, quite frankly, was disgusting
- the bubble tea, that is
- there's this kind of middle aged man that works at Renison, doing maintenance stuff and odd jobs and whenever I see him, I just smile. Cause he seems like one of those guys that would just be really great to hang out with, like he would always be happy
- tea/sugar update: I've stolen some sugar packages from the caf
- but they're sugar alternatives, so I'm sure it will not be as good
- listening to Coldplay's "Fix You"
- avoiding my 5 hours of studying by writing this post
- oh I also forgot to mention the hour of photoshop tutorials I need to watch
- because heaven forbid I don't know how to use the eraser tool and I need to watch a 5 minute video on it
- complaining to the void (you guys) about my problems
- which are nothing compared to the problems in Africa, which were mentioned in this morning's service
- I'm sitting by a window and these two squirrels keep running back and forth
- two mid-terms, a presentation, three chapter readings, and an assignment all (due) on Friday
- residence weekend brunches are my fav meals of the week because they have baked beans and pastries
- eating said pastries despite the fact that I already had a muffin
- I forgot to mention earlier that the muffin I got from Timmies was fresh baked; that's the pro of being up early, they've just opened and so everything was still warm and soft and gooey on the inside
- listening to Coldplay's "The Scientist"
- this post is taking longer to write that I originally thought
- apparently my time judgement is just completely off these days
- I went to the bank
- but forgot it was Sunday and the morning
- so it was closed
- so I couldn't get the loonies I need for laundry
- so that will be interesting when laundry day comes around (Wednesdays)
- I read on the bus
- because that's the only time I can find to read
- and I've really missed reading
- my tea has gone cold because I've been too busy typing to drink it
- strawberry danish and red velvet muffin down, bread pudding to go
- I was going to try and stop eating to much in the pathetic hopes that I would look half decent in my bathing suit next week
- but to hell with that
- speaking of next week
- I can't even get excited because I have so much stuff to do
- including packing for next week
- which I'm stressing out about
- cause I'll probably forget something important
- like my bathing suit
- and I'm going to have to haul it all to Stratford
- don't even get me started on Stratford right now
- I am just about done with that place
- more specifically the campus/courses/professors
- damn this is taking a long time; listening to Hunter Hayes' "Invisible"
- I just dropped a piece of my bread pudding -_-
- my skind is really dry
- like, never before in my life has my skin been this dry
- the skin over my knuckles is cracking and splitting
- it's not like I needed that skin anyways
- my skind is really dry
- like, never before in my life has my skin been this dry
- the skin over my knuckles is cracking and splitting
- it's not like I needed that skin anyways
- the LEGO Movie got 97% on Rotten Tomatoes
- which makes me really happy
- cause I want to see it
- but now I really want to see it
- just watched The LEGO Movie trailer
- here, you can too:
- yeah and now I'm basically just stalling to avoid work
- oh hey I can do my daily things
- (the squirrels just ran by again)

Sherlock: Character everyone likes but you don't.
Probably Anderson. Everyone hated him up until season three, where he was the only one who believed in Sherlock. And I really liked learning more about him in this season. But I'm still not a huge fan though.

My Life:
74. What is your favourite book?
For a long time it was Along For the Ride by Sarah Dessen. But then I read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. They're both so good! I guess they're just tied for favourite at the moment.
Along For the Ride By Sarah Dessen synopsis:
It’s been so long since Auden slept at night. Ever since her parents’ divorce—or since the fighting started. Now she has the chance to spend a carefree summer with her dad and his new family in the charming beach town where they live.
A job in a clothes boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She missed out on all that, too busy being the perfect daughter to her demanding mother. Then she meets Eli, an intriguing loner and a fellow insomniac who becomes her guide to the nocturnal world of the town. Together they embark on parallel quests: for Auden, to experience the carefree teenage life she’s been denied; for Eli, to come to terms with the guilt he feels for the death of a friend.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green synopsis:
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

Actors
So I'm really excited for the The Fault in Our Stars movie, staring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.
I am also really excited for the Divergent movie, staring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort....
In TFioS, they play lovers. But in Divergent they play brother and sister. Weird, right? What I'm thinking though, is what are the chances that they would be in two movies that I want to see together? Especially being lesser-known actors (not for long though!).
BUT I'M SO EXCITED FOR BOTH MOVIES.
Also, a new Sherlock episode came out today!!! I'm gonna go watch it. Apparently it was not at all what people were thinking, the new villain, CAM, is worse than Moriarty, and it's really dark. I'm SO EXCITED. But also sad, because this means we're on hiatus again... But Moffat and Gatiss have said that there is going to be a season 4 and 5, of which they already have the basic plot lines for. And they're also hoping to have them out sooner. Because seriously. I don't think I could handle another 2 year gap.

QOTD #66
66. Cheetos or Fritos?
I feel like this isn't even a fair comparison. It's like comparing cookies to cupcakes. While in a similar range of each other, not comparable. But despite this unfairness, I choose Cheetos all the way.
Speaking of food, I went to the mall today. I went first for church. Then I sat in the food court and read a bit while I waited for the stores to open. I got some lunch from ManchuWOK and then went shopping. It was my little treat for myself. I went to the grocery store and guess what. I got two single servings of Kraft Dinner, a raman noodle bowl and a package of donut holes for $3.84. Three eighty-four! If that doesn't make you the happiest person, I don't know what will. I also bought Paper Towns by John Green because I've been wanting to read that for awhile and 500 Days of Summer. It was on sale for $5 and I thought, how far wrong can I go? Basically, I got a lot for very little today, and that makes me happy.
I've been in the process of going through and listening to every song in my iTunes library in alphabetical order. That sounds really OCD, but it was just a way to listen to the songs in a seemingly random order. Anyways, I've been paying attention to the lyrics more and I've found some lyrics that I really like. So every so often I might just tag some lyrics on the bottom of my posts.
I was listening to Weight of Living, Pt II by Bastille and I really liked the first verse and was going to add it to my list of lyrics. But then I just really liked the entire song, so here it is.
The weight of living [x4]
All that you desired, when you were a child
Was to be old, was to be old
Now that you are here, suddenly you fear
You've lost control (You've lost control)
Do you like the person you've become? Oh
[Chorus]
Under the weight of living
You're under the weight of living
Under the weight of living
You are under the weight of living
The weight of living, the weight of living
It all crept up on you, in the night it got you
And plagued your mind, it plagues your mind
Every day that passes, faster than the last did
And you'll be old soon, you'll be old
Do you like the person you've become? Oh
[Chorus]
Under the weight of living
You're under the weight of living
Under the weight of living
You are under the weight of living
The weight of living, the weight of living
(Tell yourself this is how it's going to be)
(Tell yourself this is how it's going to be)
Oh, tell yourself this is how it's going to be.
Oh, tell yourself this is how it's going to be, oh.
[Chorus]
Under the weight of living
You're under the weight of living
Under the weight of living
You are under the weight of living
The weight of living, the weight of living

Stolen
I've found it!!! Somebody was trying to explain a book to me and I remembered reading it but I couldn't remember what it was called! It's Stolen by Lucy Christopher.
Although I'm pretty sure none of you were the one who was explaining it...
Here's the description:
"A girl: Gemma, sixteen, at the airport, on her way to a family vacation.
Although I'm pretty sure none of you were the one who was explaining it...
Here's the description:
"A girl: Gemma, sixteen, at the airport, on her way to a family vacation.
A guy: Ty, rugged, tan, too old, oddly familiar, eyes blue as ice.
She steps away. For just a second. He pays for her drink. And drugs it. They talk. Their hands touch. And before Gemma knows what''s happening, Ty takes her. Steals her away. To sand and heat. To emptiness and isolation. To nowhere. And expects her to love him.
Written as a letter from a victim to her captor, Stolen is Gemma''s desperate story of survival; of how she has to come to terms with her living nightmare-or die trying to fight it."

THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO KNOW (QOTD #58)
THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO KNOW HOW SHERLOCK FAKED HIS DEATH. AND. IT. IS. KILLING. ME. And the next episode comes out tomorrow and people will know even more and I will stILL BE SITTING HERE DYINGY BECAUSE I KNOW NOTHING. And since there are only three episodes I might as well say that I'm an entire season behind. There is no positive to my current situation. None, I tell you. Because I can't go on tumblr because tumblr should really be read "spoilers" because really what else do you find on there. Since I can't go on tumblr, I decided to go on Pinterest BUT THERE ARE PINERS PINNING TUMBLR POSTS WITH SPOILERS IN THEM OMG i'm done. i give up. theres no point anymore. i might as well go hide in my bedroom until i can go back to residence in which case I will watch the two episodes and then continue to hide in my room because my brain will shut down from all the feels and overwhelming awseomeness that is Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes. (Also, went to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug today with my friend Croissant and it was so good and I love Benedict Cumberbatch even more because his voice. That man has no bounds.)
J, this ^ is a good example of being a part of a fandom. It truly is a love/hate relationship with a lot pining and wishing about things that can't be.
moving on, now that I have that off my chest...
Started rereading The Fault in Our Stars today. Seriously, you all need to read it. I was going to reread it in December, but I needed to meet my Goodreads reading goal (which I did reach, 45 books thank you very much) and Goodreads doesn't let a reread count towards your reading goal. I'm so excited for the movie!!!
58. Ever have a deja-vu feeling?
Not one that is particularly sticking out to me. When I try to think back to a deja-vu moment I might of had, I think of dreams. Not any specific dream, but just dreams in general. I don't know if that is because you could dream about a situation you were in or vice versa?

John Green
I think that John Green is an amazing author, and person in general. This was reinforced when I found these answers to questions on his webpage:
"
Q. Stephanie Meyer has said that her characters were real and that they decided where the plot would go. Is it like that for you?
A. So far as I can tell, if you say that, you’re saying one of two things:
1. I have this unconscious mind to which I have no access that can write books, and I just have to shut off my conscious mind and let my unconscious mind work.
or
2. A supernatural force came to me and whispered the words into my ear and I wrote them down.
Saying the second thing seems really presumptuous to me (like, saying that God wrote your book is a very, very bold thing to say). The first seems more plausible to me—I know that for many people the writing experience does not feel like it involves effort or consciousness—but for me that is not the case. I wrote the book. I was conscious of the fact that I was writing a book while I was writing it. I was conscious of the fact that I was using words to try to tell a story that would find life in your mind.

Q. Where do you get your ideas?
A. I don’t really know. If I had a better understanding of where my ideas came from, I would go there and acquire more ideas. I don’t tend to have big ideas, like, “A SCHOOL FOR WIZARDS!” or “VAMPIRES IN SUBURBIA!” My stories tend to start out with people: a child prodigy who hits the wall of his intellectual talents. A religious but not fundamentalist Muslim in the South. A young woman kept alive but uncured by a novel cancer treatment. These characters mix with questions that interest and/or haunt me: Why are we so interested in leaving a legacy? Can we construct meaning in a world that is so profoundly apathetic toward us? Is it possible to have a full life without having a long life? That’s where my books start, really. They begin at the intersection between people I’m imagining and questions that bug me.

Basically, John Green hates Twilight just as much as the rest of us :)

Happy New Year!
To ring in the new year, I thought it would be cool to create a 2013 in review. Because if I'm honest, it all feels like so long ago and I've probably forgotten half of it. So here is my 2013 in review:
- submitted university applications
- got my G2
- took guitar lessons
- got accepted to 3 universities
- got rejected by one university
- went on a cruise
- bought a new lens for my camera
- graduated high school with honours
- worked at FCC for the summer
- got a laptop
- started university
- saw Justin Bieber's star in Stratford
- turned 18
- became obsessed with tumblr
- folded 87 paper cranes
- improved my guitar skills
- got a new phone
- surprised my BFFLAAT at the train station
- made 3 new friends (and other acquaintances)
- created a gif for the first time
- took my fangirling to a whole new level
- visited my BFFLAAT in Toronto
- saw Catching Fire in ULTRAVAX
- made my first ever animation
- decorated my house for christmas all by myself
- finished term 1 of year 1 of university
- made 14 glitter jars
- started spontaneous dancing
- travelled to Ottawa
- made 226 blog posts
- made 2.5 quilts
- read 45 books
- baked 1500+ cookies (at camp while I was working in the kitchen, and at home. Technically I didn't bake each cookie at camp myself, but it sure felt like it.)
I'm sure I've forgotten lots of things. But this is a lot!

QOTD #21
21. Are you in a good mood?
Well, while I should have been studying, I was watching vlogbrothers videos about The Fault in our Stars movie which I am SO EXCITED FOR. It comes out on June 6th, 2014. I also learned that Ansel Elgort, who plays Augustus Waters in TFioS, is also in the movie for Divergent, which I am ALSO VERY EXCITED FOR (he plays Tris's brother). So that was some fun fangirling. But it is also RIDICULOUSLY COLD ON MY FLOOR AND ESPECIALLY IN MY ROOM. The entire wing that my floor is on is cold, the heating isn't working. Probably how the mould got started. Or I guess mould would thrive in warmer temperatures...? Anyways, I've been wearing sweaters and multiple pairs of sock for the past week. There was even a time I put gloves on I was so cold. Being at the end of the hall (and not the end attached to the building), my room and the room across from me are the coldest. Somebody had a thermometer and the end rooms are AN ENTIRE 10 DEGREES COLDER than the rest of the building. They put two dinky heaters in the hall, which is kind of warming up the hall, BUT THAT DOESN'T HELP MY ROOM. The room across from me had been given a heater when it first started to get cold and they say that it only raised the temperature 2 degrees. The girls in that room don't even sleep in their room anymore. They go sleep on other floors WHERE THE TEMPERATURE IS NOT COMPARABLE TO THAT OF OUTSIDE. So if you're still looking for a Christmas gift idea, a heater would be greatly appreciated. At least I'm only here for 5 more days and then I'm home! So to answer the question, yes. I am in a good mood. TFioS tipped the scale. Had I decided to to what I was supposed to be doing (studying for Italian), I would not be in a good mood.
What scares me is...
The unknown. And I know a lot of people probably say that. But I don't mean the unknown as in "what's outside our galaxy?" kind of unknown (although that's probably pretty scary as well). I mean if somebody has a surprise or something. The little unknowns. For example, when the bus to TO left before I was on it and there was nobody around to tell me what was going on, that was scary. Situations where I am doing something and there is nobody to reassure me that what I'm doing it correct, that scares me.

Happy
I finished The Fault in Our Stars the other day, and it was an amazing book. I highly suggest reading it. I cried. One of my favourite quotes from the book is "My thoughts are stars I can't fathom into constellations." But reading it made me think back to when my friend read it, when it first came out. The first printing, 150,000 books, were all signed by the author, John Green. His brother, Hank, signed 25% of those with a hanklerfish. And even fewer of those were doodled in by John's wife. The only way you would get a signed copy was if you pre-ordered it, simply because of the demand. My friend had pre-ordered it. She was excited about getting a signed copy, but knew that she would not have a good chance of getting a hanklerfish or extra doodle. When it came in, however, she discovered that she had gotten one of the ones with a hanklerfish. She was so happy about it. And it was in this moment that I truly understood the meaning of "to be happy for somebody else". Because I was. I was happy for her, that she got this little extra thing that really isn't that big, but means so much to her. Needless to say, that is the one book she wouldn't let me borrow :)

Library
I applied for a Waterloo Public Library card since the university libraries are basically all academic books. I needed a piece of ID that had my proof of address on it. Despite all of the paperwork involved in applying to university and residence, there was not a single piece of paper that had the Rension address on it. So I figured I would ask reception if they had anything I could use. They didn't, but they sent me to Karen, the Head of Housing (or something like that) to see if she had anything. She was busy, so I figured I would check my mail box, which is across from her office. And I had mail! It was a belated birthday card. It wasn't until I was cutting out the stamp on the envelope that I realized the obvious. This envelope had my name and address on it! So, armed with my envelope I headed off to the library. Despite the chill in the air, I figured I would walk there and get some exercise. Only to discover that the road I needed to take was under construction. So I started walking through a park, hoping that it would stay parallel with the road and get me to where I needed to be. And while on this adventure of not really knowing where I was, what building do I see but the activities complex where OFLO2013 was held? Grateful for the familiar surroundings, I got my bearings and made my way to the library. The "Waterloo Public Library" signs helped, too. And after everything I went through to get the ID, she didn't even ask to see it. It was one of those scenarios where you know that if you take an umbrella it won't rain but if you don't, it will rain. Get what I'm saying? Anyways, I got a book out of it all so that's what really matters I guess. On the way back I saw a costume store so I popped in. I got a hat for my Mary Poppins costume. I'm still working on finding a skirt....

I must be more excited about school than I'm letting on...
...because this morning I found my Italian dictionary and ARBUS textbook in my bed.... I don't know how I feel about this. And it's not like they just fell off my desk into my bed. No, they were up on a shelf and ended up on my bed. At least they didn't get bent or anything.

It's Been A While
Soooooo..... The reason I haven't been posting is because I have been busy and lazy. One of the reason is because I SMASH about a lot of stuff, so I don't think about it again generally, which results in me not blogging about it. But I'll try and keep posting, because I enjoy having a blog. Also, it let's you know what's going on in my life (aka, it's for the parents!). First off, having a bucket of candy in my room is not good. I have been eating way too much of it. That's another thing, I always take a lot of food at meals because it's buffet style. I need to watch what I'm eating. I had printed off some photos and have now put them up on my wall. I'll need to print off some more. I was complained to by my family about the fact that I currently don't have any family photos. As a floor we just did a dance/airband act in front of the residence. It was very last minute. And I mean very last minute. We didn't place, but we did get an honourable mention. I am almost done reading The Help. I have been wanting to finish it for a while because I don't have much time to read at camp. But now I really want to finish it because I have Inferno by Dan Brown waiting on my shelf. I love Brown's book. My first class is tomorrow at 9. I have Italian. Don't ask me why I'm taking Italian. But I actually need to go to bed at a decent time so that I am awake during class. I haven't gone to bed before midnight any day this week. So long for now!

Fearless
Ok, so about the book series that is 36 books long, it was published starting in 2000. The books that I'm reading right now though are a recent publication, as in earlier this year. But the book just mentioned Liam Hemsworth and LMFAO (the band). So I'm a little confused. Because although they may have existed 12 years ago, they were definitely not mention-in-a-book worthy. So I don't know if that for the republication they updated some of the terms to seem more 'in' or what. The sad thing is that there is currently no Fearless 3 (the next three books). So I started looking for just the next book (#7). But the library doesn't have it. People on Amazon are selling it for $0.01 but the shipping is like 5 bucks. BUT THE BOOK WAS LEFT ON A CLIFFHANGER (of sorts). ANNNND I also found out that there is a sort of spin off series called Fearless FBI. IT NEVER ENDS.
